LA TROPICANA

LA TROPICANA

Inspired by one of Cuba’s most emblematic cocktails the Daiquiri and the whimsical, over- the- top cabaret institution, the Tropicana in Havana, our cocktail will transport you to the island with every sip! Some of my favorite flavors to play with during these warmer months: rum, pineapple and coconut. Salud y Buen Provecho!!

Ingredients:

2 oz Anejo Rum (Havana Club 7 is a good one!)

1 oz pineapple juice

3/4 oz coconut milk

1/4 Banana

Juice from half a lime

Optional: 1teaspoon of sugar if you like things a little sweeter.

Garnish: pineapple wedge or lime wheel

Perparation:

Simply add all ingredients to a blender and blend until the banana is smooth. Pour contents into glass of choice filled with ice! OR For a frozen version, throw all in ingredients in a blender with a scoop of ice and you’re good to go!

Bartender Wisdom:

A Daiquiri is essentially any cocktail with a base of rum, citrus and sugar though nowadays countless versions exist of this very classic libation usually by adding fruit purees like strawberry or banana to the basic recipe. Ernest Hemingway used to have his with grapefruit juice and Maraschino liquor, no sugar and double the rum….Damn! He allegedly loved the drink so much he knocked back 17 in one sitting at El Floridita bar in Havana.
